Government Official Confirms Ministry of Defence Investigating Security Risk from Chinese Cars, as Staff Advised to Avoid Confidential Discussions in Vehicles.

An defense minister has stated that the Ministry of Defence is currently examining the potential security risks associated with Chinese cars, and staff have been instructed to refrain from discussing classified information in any cars.

Security Guidance for MoD Staff

During a recently aired interview on LBC, Luke Pollard commented on claims that Ministry of Defence staff have been told not to talk about secret material while riding in China-made cars.

The minister said that the MoD is “looking into” Chinese vehicles within its vehicle pools, but stressed that safety is a concern in all contemporary cars.

We have a collection of tens of thousands of vehicles in the MoD and Chinese ones represent a tiny fraction.
However regardless of if you’re traveling in a vehicle from China or a car from another country, what we’ve asked our people is not to plug Ministry of Defence devices into their car, to avoid having discussions at a classified classification in any kind of car, due to the increasing threats of surveillance that exist in every single vehicle, to only have those secret talks in protected areas. That’s a wise and reasonable thing for everyone worried about safety.

After it was put to him that it would be wise for the MoD to stop using every cars from China, the minister replied: ‘That’s exactly what we’re investigating at the moment.”

Broader Security Background

The announcement follows reports from Scandinavian countries have alerted the United Kingdom to the existence of multi-purpose shutdown mechanisms in Chinese buses, which could enable China to switch off buses and cause chaos to public transit.

Additionally, a Russian spy ship has been directing laser beams at Royal Air Force pilots, described as a “highly dangerous” action by defence officials.

The broader defence environment highlights the importance of robust measures and caution in every areas of government activities, including vehicle usage to discussions practices.
